Together with Institute of Innovation & Entrepreneurship (IIE) and Wee Kim Wee Centre of Singapore Management University, Fellowship of Inventors (FOI) is excited to be organising Invent Singapore '09 (ISG '09). Based on the success of its inaugural event last year, ISG '09 is yet another insightful conference bringing together the invention and innovation community in Singapore.  The theme for this year's conference is “Innovation Through Collaboration: Can Multiple Players Reach The Same Goal?”

ISG '09 addresses and challenges the traditional mindset that for SMEs to thrive, government authorities should be as uninvolved as possible. “Just give us the money and stay out of the way,” seems to the unified battlecry for these entrepreneurs.

At this year's conference, we aim to examine the roles of government, SMEs and individuals in driving innovation. It is an honest discussion to explore the possibility of bringing innovation to the next level as a team. Can collaborations between the government, SMEs and individuals amount to a groundbreaking fruition? While we question if this ideal could be achieved, we also delve into ways of building a collective mindset from this compelling discourse. Some questions we will be debating include:

  • What are the different roles played by each party?
  • Who becomes the captain of the ship?
  • Should whistle-blowing intervention be encouraged?
  • How to strike a balance between accountability and risk-taking?
  • What exit strategy should be taken when irreconcilable differences between the three parties start to impede progress?
